I’ve read reviews and read articles stating that this is one of the greatest Reggae albums of all time or a “must have” for Reggae fans. No, this one of the the best ALBUMS of all time period! Not just for Reggae fans but for MUSIC fans of all races, colors and creeds. Peter Tosh is truly an underrated genius, lost many times in the rather large shadow of his fellow Wailer, Bob Marley. However, Tosh was an artist who stood on his own merit and wrote some of the most profound songs ever recorded or heard.
EQUAL RIGHTS was indeed a very high point for Peter and truly established him as someone who was here to stay. It’s sometimes forgotten that this was just his sophomore effort as a solo artist and he nailed it big time with this one. I think this album may define who he was as both an artist and a person more than any other he recorded. You truly hear the complexities that made up the man who was, in many areas around the world, just as revered as the great Marley. As a matter of fact, I’ve read articles that many people in Africa and the U.S. associated with Tosh better than Marley due to Peter’s militant stance against injustices
